Valentine's Goodies

The Bean had a Valentine's Day party at school today so I prepared some (non-edible) goodies for the class. As an aside, who decided that Valentine's Day is all about chocolate and sugar and other naughties? I found these sweet little ice cube trays at the dollar bin at Target and pondered a use for them - they are the perfect size to make little goodies for little hands. I scavenged the kids' crayola bin, pilfered the pinks, reds, and purples, and broke them into small bits. 20 or so minutes later at 325 and they melted into perfect heart-shaped Crayolas.

I also made melt-and-pour soaps. So easy peasy yet very impressive. You can find the soaps, colorings, and scents at Michaels, AC Moore, or any similar craft-type store. I used a combination of Shea Butter and Glycerin soaps, red coloring, and almond scent.

In addition, he'll pass out these darling Valentines (a freebie courtesy of The Long Thread). So much cuter than anything you could ever buy at the store.

On a Cold, Rainy Day

A cold, blustery day in LA is something that this east-coast transplant treasures, and what better way to celebrate the cold than cozy wool socks. Mmmm... I do love my Mommy and the lovely socks she made me. I've already requested another pair. Or three.

Armed with my cozy socks and two napping kids, I put a loaf of bread in the oven (mmm... grilled cheese on fresh bread for dinner). I poured myself a cup of hot chocolate (natch) and headed to my sewing table to enjoy. Can you see the quilt I'm working on? It involves lots of fussy cuts from Alexander Henry's Mona and Alphonse. I found the print at the AH Outlet and just had to have it. Combined with a lot of Kona Coral, it's looking so bright and cheery on this gloomy day.

More Insane Than I Thought

So it seems as though my last post was way back in '08. Time passes, no? I guess things got more hectic than I thought. With the kids now at 4 years and 19 mos, I'm starting to feel like I'm getting a better handle on life. Sure, the house is still a zoo, but I think that's more a function of me rather than my life.

But I've started cooking again, albeit sporadically. I'm crafting again and was able to do homemade scrapbook-style holiday cards this year after a hiatus last year. And I've recently come into quilting, which I pretty much adore.

Hoping that I can keep up with my life, my crafting, and this time, even my blog. Here's to hoping...
